Teach Them Well
.Apparently, my attempts to educate Alex about vegetarianism have gotten through...
He knows not to eat gummy candies, or marshmallows, or jell-o, because they contain gelatin.
Meat has been rather thoroughly covered.
But I didn't expect this.
One day, when presented with animal crackers as the morning snack, Alex politely but firmly informed his teacher that he couldn't eat them, because they were made with animals...
It took a talk with his teacher, as well as a discussion with us, to assure him that no animals were harmed in the making of those cookies.

That's a really fun story--I'm sure you'll be remembering it in 20 years! Does show how clever Alex is, just like his parents. Looking forward to meeting him someday!
Oh, we'd really like that!
Some day...we'll take that long-planned trip to the Bay area. After all, we have so many wonderful restaurants to share with Alex!!
So cute!!
Thanks, Wendy...kids really do say the funniest things.
Just so you should know, all kosher gummy candies and such, are made with vegetable gelatin. Regular gelatin is made from non-kosher animals. So if you have a craving, check the kosher aisle!
Oh, if only that were true.
Recently, a brand of marshmallows which labeled itself as 'vegetarian' and 'Kosher', had to admit that the gelatin used in the treats did in fact come from fish. "Kosher" gelatin is Kosher, but it's not vegetarian.
But if it was, it'd make our lives so much easier!
