Dispensing Happiness

A good cook is like a sorceress who dispenses happiness.-Elsa Schiapirelli

That's me, the magical good cook.

Borrowing from my friend Dexygus, I've created my own food blog.

Read of my exploits in the kitchen! Salivate over the descriptions of fabulous desserts and savory meals I've concocted!

No, seriously...go ahead. It'll make my day.

Rained Out

.

Saturday, we had plans to take in our first drive-in movie of the season, Spiderman 3. We were to leave around five-thirty, wait in line for the gates to open at seven (the best way to get a good 'seat'), then set up our chairs around the car while we waited for the sun to set (because, you know, it's really hard to see a film projected onto a giant screen during daylight). We were bringing Duke, and lots of fun things for Alex to do, and looking forward to a little 'bad' food for dinner. Stuff from the diner-like snack bar.

Unfortunately, Mother Nature decided it was not yet time to start up one of our favorite summer activities, and poured buckets of water on our area for the entire day.

Had it just been the two of us, it wouldn't have mattered much. But it wasn't fair to keep a four year old and a large dog cooped up in a car for six hours.

So, we stayed home, and watched Kim Possible: A Sitch in Time. But we still got our grill on, making burgers and dogs (of both the meat and veg variety), with cheese and (faux) bacon, and chili. French fries, too, of course, some potato chips, and some really thick chocolate shakes.

It wasn't quite as much fun as a night at the drive-in, but we still had a pretty good night. We're trying again, this weekend, though...

Blog Party#22 is here, and this month, we're taking on the Wild, Wild West!
Turn your favorite Western dishes into appetizers, and cocktails/mocktails, and join the party.

4 Thoughts for food:

The drive in where you live sounds great! (I remember your post from last year). They just reopened the one in Concord (CA) after being closed for 5 years due to customer demand! Interesting that the land was still there and wasn't sold off. The old drive-in in Union City is now a massive shopping mall (plus a 20-screen movie theatre, just not the same). It's been ages since I went to a drive-thru tho I can still remember the novelty of the very first time as a kid, watching Pink Panther cartoons on the big screen (I've forgotten what the main movie was!).

Hope you get dry weather for S-3 next weekend! And does Duke get some fries, too?

Hi Katherine!!

Oh, they're all wonderful. We have such a good time there. It's a cheap and fun way to spend an evening, and it's very family-friendly. When you pay at the very-retro booths on the way in, they'll hand you suckers for the kids, and Milk Bones for the dogs!

Oh, seriously??? Concord's not too far...we went there a couple of times for concerts.
ugh...shopping malls and multi-plexes. Not my bag, that's for sure.

My first drive-in experience was in spring of '78: Star Wars. I've never forgotten that.

So far, it looks dry this weekend...our fingers (and anything else we can spare) are crossed.

And I imagine Duke will gets lots of treats while we're there!

Has Matt written to you yet? He keeps saying he needs to...

Deborah; it's still a fantastic family experience. We did get to take Alex last Saturday to see Spiderman 3 (although he fell asleep half-way through; it was considerably past his bed-time!), and we have many more Saturdays marked for the drive-in this summer. The Simpsons? Ratatouille, Pirates, Ocean's 13, The Bourne Ultimatum...wow. Of course, not all are suitable for a four-year old, but thank goodness for grandparents!
